Coutinho completes loan move to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have signed Brazilian attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho on a season-long loan deal. The Bavarians have paid the Catalans a £7.78million loan fee for Coutinho plus paying his wages. Bayern also have the option of purchasing the former star for a fee of £109.8m.

Coutinho moving to Bayern instead of PSG

It seemed Philippe Coutinho was more likely to head to PSG this summer than Bayern. The culture and lifestyle in Paris seem to suit South American players. Wantaway Neymar seems to enjoy the lifestyle, but not the actual playing for PSG to earn his living part.

However, thinking of it from a football point the move makes sense. Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in world football. They are always in the latter stages of the Champions League and are obviously always title contenders in the Bundesliga.

A switch to Bayern Munich will certainly increase Coutinho’s medal collection that is for sure. He already has medals from his time at Barcelona, including a La Liga winners medal.

Will be a big player at Bayern

Bayern Munich have a fine tradition of big players representing the club. Coutinho is without a doubt a top player on his day. Arguably Bayern needed a marquee signing this summer after the summer exits of club icons Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

Colombian attacking midfielder James Rodriguez did not quite live up to his reputation during a two-year loan spell from Real Madrid. Coutinho will be hoping for better luck with the German giants.

Bayern have enjoyed mixed fortunes during pre-season. Signing Coutinho should give everybody connected with the club a lift. At Liverpool, everybody saw the sort of effect he can have on games when he is on form. Coutinho certainly has the quality to become a very good asset to the German club. If Bayern can employ the attacking midfielder in the right position then they have a world-class player in their squad.

Favourites to win the Bundesliga title

Bayern Munich opened their Bundesliga title defence with a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena against Hertha Berlin. However, the Bavarians are still the favourites to win the German title ahead of Dortmund this season. BVB looked set to win the Bundesliga title last season. However, Lucien Favre’s team stumbled towards the end of the campaign, which saw Bayern nip in to retain their title.

This season Bayern will once again have a major fight on their hands to win the German top-flight title. The signing of Coutinho should make the Bavarians a stronger attacking team. The presence of the Brazilian in their starting line-up may also help their bid for the Champions League. His signing alone will not turn things in Bayern’s favour when it comes to achieving European success, though.

Coutinho’s move to Bavaria certainly suits both Bayern and the player. The attacking midfielder seemed highly unlikely to see much game time at Barcelona this season. His time in Barcelona did not quite work out how anybody would have wanted it to. Everybody involved with Coutinho will be hoping he enjoys better fortunes in Bavaria, including Barcelona.
