One of the biggest games in the latest round of qualifying for Euro 2020 takes place in Hamburg on Friday night, as Germany host bitter rivals the Netherlands in Group C.

Germany (Odds of 10/11 for victory)

The home side head into this clash against their bitter rivals’ favourites for victory. Joachim Low’s side has returned to form of late after a poor spell of form. In fact, Die Mannschaft are now six games unbeaten in international football, having recorded four wins.

Low’s side have started their qualification with three wins, beating the Netherlands 3-2 in the reverse fixture before winning 2-0 in Belarus and hammering Estonia 8-0 in their last qualifier. Despite their good start to the campaign, Low’s side still trails leaders Northern Ireland by three points, but they have played an extra game in the group.

Germany have a strong recent record in qualifying for the European Championships, recording wins in nine of their last ten outings. To say the home side have been hard to beat in qualifying would be an understatement, as they have lost just two of their last 25 qualifiers.

Germany’s home record in European Championship qualifying is strong too, as they are unbeaten in 13 home games, recording 11 wins in the process. They have also won their last four home qualifiers, scoring at least twice in all four wins.

Netherlands (Odds of 11/4 for victory)

The Netherlands have played just two qualifiers for Euro 2020 due to their involvement in the Nations League. The Dutch started the campaign with a 4-0 home hammering of Belarus before that aforementioned defeat in the reverse fixture.

Ronald Koeman’s side has a patchy recent international record, winning just one of their last five matches in 90 minutes. The visitor’s recent form in qualifying for the European Championships has not been great either. In fact, the visitors have recorded three wins and suffered three defeats in qualifying.

Their most recent qualifiers have offered good entertainment value anyway, as the visitors last five matches in qualifying for the European Championships have produced over 2.5 goals.

The Oranje’s recent away record in qualifying is poor, as they have lost four of their last six qualifiers on their travels, winning the other two. The main cause of those away defeats was poor defensive displays, as the Netherlands conceded at least twice in all four of those qualifying defeats.

Germany have been difficult opponents for the Netherlands in recent years, as the Oranje have won just one of the last five meetings between the two teams.

Prediction

Germany are in good form after a nightmare year that saw a group stage exit at the World Cup, as well as finishing bottom of their Nations League group, which the Netherlands topped.

The Netherlands are going through a slight inconsistent run of form of late. A trip to face one of their biggest footballing rivals is a major test of the Oranje’s resurgence in recent years.

We are backing the home win at odds of 10/11. The over 2.5 goals at odds of 13/20 does not look like a terrible bet, as both these teams tend to be involved in high-scoring games.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 10/11 and/or over 2.5 goals at odds of 13/20 (All odds taken from Bet365).
