The 2020/21 Premier League season began yesterday with games flooding in over the next few days, and in truth, it almost feels as if it never left.

The division that is known by many for being one of the very best in world football continues to provide us with shocking moments, hilarious blunders and major upsets, and really, we wouldn’t expect anything less. After Arsenal and Crystal Palace were able to impress in the first two games of the matchday we got the chance to see Liverpool square off against PL newcomers Leeds United.

The Yorkshire outfit gave them a bloody nose in more ways than one but in the end, it was Jurgen Klopp’s men that came away with a vital win to open up their campaign.

Still, despite their four goals and fluid football, the defensive issues on show for the red half of Merseyside should give confidence to the teams around them who are planning on making a push for the title – and that’s especially true for Chelsea.

Realistically speaking many pundits believe Manchester City are the only club that can do something about Liverpool’s reign of dominance, but they seem to be missing a trick with Frank Lampard’s men.

Their summer transfer window business alone is enough of a reason to pop open the champagne and start celebrating about their potential, but we also think they’re in the right place mentally. They edged their way into the top four on the final day and felt that sensation of success, but in equal measure, they also suffered the agony of defeat on the big stage as they lost the FA Cup Final to Arsenal. That feeling of loss may have hurt at the time, but it’ll teach Lampard about what he needs to do in order to come back even stronger this season.

Plus, we’re not so sure why City are being tipped so heavily. Their good form in the last few games of the season just gone seems to have clouded the judgement of the masses, as has their European ban being overturned. They’re very good but they haven’t been able to consistently prove themselves as the top dogs for a long time now, and Roman Abramovich is doing everything in his power to ensure that Chelsea reclaim their spot at the top of the mountain.

It’s silly to make any kind of declaration about what Chelsea are going to do when we haven’t even seen them play, but what we can say is that the potential is there for all to see. They’ve got the right backing, the right manager, and the right squad to contend. Now, all we need to see is some consistency and cohesion.
