Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (13/5) vs Chelsea (21/20)

We are backing the away win

When: Thursday, 4th February 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

On Thursday night, Tottenham and Chelsea clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in what could be a pivotal London derby in the race for European qualification from the Premier League.

Tottenham

Jose Mourinho’s team have continued their inconsistent Premier League campaign in recent weeks, suffering two straight defeats against Liverpool and Brighton. The most worrying fact for Spurs of late is that they have won just twice in their previous nine league outings.

Despite a lack of regular wins, the home team are still just six points behind fourth-place Leicester, who have played an extra game than the team from north London. Tottenham have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine Premier League matches. Considering Mourinho’s often pragmatic style of management, that is quite surprising.

Spurs have not been great at home in the English top-flight, winning just four of their last ten league outings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including claiming just one win in their last four league outings on their own patch.

The home side’s recent record against the visitors is poor, as they have failed to win any of the last six meetings with the Blues, losing on four occasions. The last two encounters between the pair have finished all-square though.

Chelsea

The visitors have taken four points from two games under new head coach Thomas Tuchel. Last time out they recorded their first win under the German boss, recording a 2-0 home win over Burnley.

The result means that Chelsea now kept clean sheets in three of their last four league games. It also moved the Blues level on points with Spurs, although Tuchel’s team has played a game more than Spurs.

One aspect of Chelsea’s game that the former Dortmund boss needs to improve to revive the Blues fortunes is their away form. The visitors head into this game on a back of a woeful record away from Stamford Bridge, as they have suffered losses in four of their previous five games on the road in the Premier League.

Poor defensive displays have played a key role in that poor recent away form, as the Blues have conceded two or more goals in three of their last four away games in the English top-flight.

Conclusion

These two teams go into this game in very different moods. Spurs are struggling without the injured Harry Kane, while the arrival of Tuchel has lifted spirits at Chelsea. We are backing the visitors to come out on top in this game. The other recommendation we make is under 2.5 goals, as Chelsea will be well organised under Tuchel, while Tottenham have looked toothless in attack of late.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 21/20 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
