In recent seasons, Belgium international striker Romelu Lukaku has become one of the most complete forwards in the world game. Last season he starred for Inter in Serie A scoring 24 goals as the Nerazzurri won their first Scudetto since season 2009/10.

Unfortunately for the Italian giants they have encountered financial issues and have already had to sell top full-back, Achraf Hakimi, to PSG. It now looks like Lukaku will also leave the club from Milan after the reigning champions accepted a bid of around £97.5m from Chelsea. The fee will be a club-record fee for the Blues.

Inter suffering major losses

It took Inter so much time to get back into a position to win the Italian top-flight title. Now that hard work has been undone by previous poor financial management. Not only have Inter lost Hakimi. They also saw head coach Antonio Conte leave and be replaced by Simone Inzaghi.

Lukaku’s strike partner Lautaro Martinez has been linked with a big-money switch for the last two summers. The Argentinian star had been linked with a move to Premier League Arsenal and Spanish champions Atletico Madrid. If they lose arguably their best three players, they will struggle to retain their crown.

A massive title boost for Chelsea

Lukaku’s return to the club he left in 2014 gives Chelsea’s hopes of winning the Premier League title a massive boost. The Blues under Thomas Tuchel would have gone into the season as one of the favourites to claim the English crown.

However, the addition of the now 28-year-old puts the team from south west London in a great position to challenge reigning champions Manchester City. Lukaku is a brilliant focal point of the attack, as he is not just a goalscorer.

He will be a good link man for the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount. The Blues seem to have a lot of different attributes in their attacking players. However, Lukaku brings different attributes to the three players mentioned above. He is powerful in a way that few modern footballers can match while having excellent technical ability.

Tuchel has turned Chelsea into real contenders

It was a slight surprise when Chelsea won the Champions League last season. However, such was the impact that head coach Thomas Tuchel had had on his new charges his team’s 1-0 final win over Manchester City in May was not a major shock.

The former Dortmund boss only joined Chelsea in late January. However, he guided the Blues to fourth-place in the Premier League, European glory and the FA Cup final. That is some going for a team that was struggling on his arrival.

The double act of Tuchel and Romelu Lukaku could be just what Chelsea needs next season to land another Premier League title. The forward’s arrival will certainly not harm the Blues chances of glory that’s for sure.
