Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (1/3) vs Newcastle (8/1)
We are backing Liverpool half-time/full-time at odds of 11/12
When: Wednesday 31 August 2022, Kick-off 20:00
On Wednesday night, Liverpool hosts Newcastle at Anfield in the Premier League, as both teams look to claim crucial points in the English top-flight.
After starting the new campaign with a three-game winless run, Liverpool responded empathically with a Premier League record 9-0 home win over Bournemouth last time out. The win over the Cherries was another high-scoring outing for Liverpool, as six of their previous seven matches in the Premier League have produced over 2.5 goals.
The Reds may not have started their campaign in stellar fashion, but their recent home record is formidable. Jurgen Klopp’s team is unbeaten in 25 Premier League matches at Anfield. However, two of their last four league matches on home soil have finished in draws. Liverpool have also scored in all 25 of those unbeaten league matches.
The Reds have an excellent recent home record against Newcastle, having won 13 of their last 16 games on home soil in all competitions against the Magpies.
Liverpool will be without the suspended Darwin Nunez. Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Diogo Jota and Thiago will all miss out through injury. Midfielder Harvey Elliott is also a fitness doubt.
The visitors are unbeaten in the Premier League this season. The Magpies kicked off the campaign with a 2-0 home win over Nottingham Forest before three straight draws against Brighton, Manchester City and Wolves.
This season’s results mean that the team from the north east are unbeaten in six league games dating back to May. However, a record of three wins in their last eight matches in the Premier League is not the greatest.
Newcastle have been slightly inconsistent of late on their travels in the Premier League. Eddie Howe’s team are unbeaten in their previous three away games. On the flip side, they have also won just two of their last eight matches away from home in the English top-flight.
The visitor’s recent away games in the Premier League have been relatively high-scoring affairs, with over 2.5 goals scored in four of their last six league matches on their travels.
Newcastle could head to Merseyside without some key players. The Magpies could be without Bruno Guimaraes, Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier, Allan Saint-Maximin, Emil Krafth, and new signing Alexander Isak, all due to injury or fitness problems.
Liverpool will have gained a major confidence boost from the mauling of Bournemouth last time out. We can see Klopp’s team winning this game, and we are backing the home team half-time/full-time. We are also backing Colombian winger Luis Diaz to be an anytime goalscorer. He looked sharp against Bournemouth, and we think he can deliver once more in this clash.
Our Tips: We are backing Liverpool half-time/full-time at odds of 11/12 and/or Luis Diaz to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
