Prediction and odds for the game: Wolves (17/2) vs Manchester City (1/3)
We are backing under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/8
When: Saturday 17 September 2022, Kick-off 12:30
Where: Molineux Stadium
In the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday, Wolves hosts reigning champions Manchester City as the visitors look to return to the top of the table.
Bruno Lage’s team has made an inconsistent start to the new campaign and currently sits in 14th place in the Premier League table. The team from the Midlands have won just one of their six top-flight games this season.
Their main problem in the early season has been scoring goals, as they have scored just three goals in the league. However, on the flip-side, the men from Molineux have conceded a league-low of just four goals so far, two fewer than Saturday’s opponents.
A 1-0 home win against Southampton in their last home match in the Premier League makes Wolves four games unbeaten on home soil in the top-flight. However, the win also ended a five-match winless league run at Molineux.
Wolves will be without striker Sasa Kalajdzic and Chiquinho through injury. Diego Costa recently joined as a free agent, but the former Spanish international will miss out through a lack of match fitness.
Pep Guardiola’s team continued their good run of form in midweek, as the Citizens defeated Dortmund 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. However, they needed a late surge to beat BVB, with goal machine Erling Haaland scoring the winner against his old club.
Back in the Premier League and City are unbeaten in 18 Premier League games since a 3-2 home defeat by Tottenham back in February. The Citizens have recorded 13 wins in the stellar run of league form.
City has been prolific in front of goal of late, scoring at least two goals in 14 of their previous 15 matches in the English top-flight.
Haaland has made a blistering goalscoring start for City, scoring 13 goals in his nine appearances in all competitions for the Citizens.
City are unbeaten in 21 away games in the Premier League. However, three of their last four league games on their travels have ended in draws. The visitors have also scored at least two goals in six of their previous seven away games in the Premier League.
City has fitness doubts about Aymeric Laporte and Kyle Walker. The former has returned to training, but this game may come too quick for the Spanish international.
Wolves have not made a great start to their season, while Manchester City seems to find new ways of winning games of late. We believe this will be a relatively tight game, as the home side are well organised.
The first bet we are backing is under 2.5 goals due to the home side’s good recent defensive record. However, we are also backing the away win, as City should eventually have too much quality for Lage’s team.
Our Tips: We are backing under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/8 and/or Manchester City to win at odds of 1/3. (All odds are taken from Bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
