Prediction and odds for the game:  Chelsea (7/10) vs Milan (4/1)

We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5

When: Wednesday 05 October 2022, Kick-off 20:00

Where: Stamford Bridge

On Wednesday night, Chelsea and Milan go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge in gameweek three of Group E in the Champions League.

Chelsea

The Blues picked up their first win under new head coach Graham Potter, as the team from south west London recorded a 2-1 win at London rivals Crystal Palace. Potter’s debut as Chelsea head coach came in a 1-1 home draw against Salzburg on gameweek two of the Champions League.

Chelsea certainly have work to do to get back into contention for the two qualification berths for the last 16 of the competition. The Blues are currently bottom of the group with one point but are just two points adrift of second-place Dinamo Zagreb. A win in this clash would put Potter’s team back on track in the group.

In truth, the Blues’ recent record in the Champions League is underwhelming, as the home team has won just one of their last four games in European football’s elite competition.

Chelsea have not won either of their last two home matches in European football’s primary competition. However, the Blues have won five of their previous seven home matches in the Champions League.

Chelsea look set to be without N’Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy through injury, while midfielder Jorginho is also a fitness doubt. The home team are set to continue with five at the back, as the Blues have used the system in both of Potter’s games in charge.

Milan

The Rossoneri recorded a 3-1 win at Empoli at the weekend to make it three wins out of their previous four matches in all competitions. The victory was a good response to suffering a 2-1 against Napoli before the international break. Milan have been potent in front of goal of late, too, scoring at least two goals in three of their last four competitive matches.

Stefano Pioli’s team have taken four points from their opening two games in the Champions League. The Rossoneri drew 1-1 with Salzburg before a 3-1 home win over Dinamo Zagreb in their last European outing. Although they haven’t been highly consistent in European football’s elite competition, the Italian giants have lost just one of their previous five matches in the Champions League. Milan don’t have a great away record of late in the competition, though, winning just one of their last five matches on their travels.

Milan look set to be without Mike Maignan, Alessandro Florenzi, Theo Hernandez, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to injuries. Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Divock Origi and Alexis Saelemaekers are also fitness doubts.

Conclusion

It is still early days for Graham Potter at Chelsea, and they are still a work in progress. Milan is a strong team, even with so many potential absentees. We are backing this clash to finish in a draw. The other bet we are backing is under 2.5 goals, as we believe this could be a tight game.

Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored.
