Prediction and odds for the game:  Liverpool (14/5) vs Manchester City (17/20)

We are backing the away win

When: Sunday, 16th October 2022, Kick-off 6:30

Where: Anfield

On Sunday, Liverpool hosts Manchester City at Anfield as the visitors look to continue their strong form in the Premier League.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s team has underachieved in the Premier League this season, as the Reds currently sit in tenth place in the table, taking just ten points from their eight league matches. A 3-2 defeat at Arsenal means that Liverpool has failed to win in their last three games. However, the Reds recovered from the loss with a 7-1 win at Rangers in the Champions League in midweek. Forward Mohamed Salah came off the substitutes bench to score a hat-trick.

Despite their relatively recent poor league form, Liverpool have remained prolific in front of goal, scoring at least two goals in four of their previous five league matches.

Liverpool are in the midst of an injury crisis, as Naby Keita, Arthur, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip all miss out through injury, while Curtis Jones is a fitness doubt.

Manchester City

The reigning English champions are unbeaten in all competitions since their 3-1 defeat by Liverpool in the Community Shield. A 0-0 draw in midweek against Copenhagen in the Champions League ended a run of six straight victories. The Citizens named a rotated squad, and versatile Spaniard Sergio Gomez was dismissed in the first half.

When it comes to the Premier League, City are undefeated in their last 21 matches, with their previous league defeat in February when they lost 3-2 against Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola’s team has been strong travellers, as City have not lost in 22 away games in the English top flight. However, they have drawn three of their last five league games on their travels.

City have been highly prolific in the Premier League of late, scoring at least two goals in 17 of their previous 18 matches. Star striker Erling Haaland has already scored 15 times in nine games in the English top flight.

Manchester City will be without England defensive pair Kyle Walker and John Stones, as well as former Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Conclusion

The 7-1 win at Rangers last time out will have lifted spirits at Liverpool. However, City are on a different planet from the Scottish team, especially as City rested several key players during midweek. We are backing City to record a victory. The other bet we are backing is over 2.5 goals, as both teams are prolific, while Liverpool’s defence has been poor, which has not been helped by defensive injuries.

Our Tips: We are backing the away win at odds of 17/20 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/9. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
