Prediction and odds for the game: Marseille (2/1) vs Tottenham (13/10)

We are backing the draw at odds of 12/5

When: Tuesday 01 November 2022, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Stade Orange Velodrome

On Tuesday night, Marseille hosts Tottenham at the Stade Orange Velodrome in a vital match in Group D of the Champions League.

OM will kick off this game bottom of the group but still with a chance of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League. In fact, a home win would see the French side leapfrog Tottenham in the group and see Antonio Conte’s team eliminated from the competition.

A home win would go against the recent form book, though, as Marseille have failed to win in any of their last four matches in all competitions. A 2-2 draw at Strasbourg last time out at least ended a three-game losing streak in competitions for Igor Tudor’s team.

Marseille’s recent record in the Champions League is a woeful one, as they have lost 17 of their previous 20 matches in European football’s elite competition. However, two of those three wins have come in their last outings in the competition before a 2-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out.

Although OM has lost seven of their previous nine home games in this competition, they have won two of their last three matches on home soil in the Champions League. One big issue for Marseille on home soil in their recent matches in this competition has been conceding goals, as they have not kept a clean sheet in nine home games in European football’s elite competition.

Antonio Conte’s team currently top the Group, and a draw would see them qualify for the last 16 of the competition. However, a win and finishing top of the group should prove advantageous in the competition’s knockout stages.

Spurs came from two goals down at Bournemouth last time out to record a 3-2 victory. The win ended a three-game winless run for the visitors in all competitions.

Tottenham has a slightly mixed recent record in the Champions League. They are unbeaten in three games in the competition but have also won just one of their four matches.

The team from north London has also struggled for away wins in the Champions League of late, as they have failed to win in four games in the competition on their travels. A goalless draw at Eintracht Frankfurt last time out at least ended a three-game losing run away from home in European football’s elite competition.

Neither of these teams has been in great form of late, and we believe they could cancel each other out, which is why we are backing the draw. Both teams’ recent Champions League games have been relatively high-scoring, which is why we are also backing over 2.5 goals scored.

Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 12/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
