Lionel Messi has been spotted in Barcelona on Monday morning amid speculation he is set to return to the Nou Camp this summer.

The World Cup winner’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain comes to an end at the end of June, at which point he will become a free agent. Barcelona has been heavily linked with bringing their top goal scorer and ex-club captain back to the club, however, it has been unclear how they would be able to afford Messi’s wages whilst also remaining within the realms of FIFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, with the Catalans in approximately $1.6b debt.

As reported by Spanish outlet Jijantes, there has been no meeting with either Barca head coach Xavi or president Joan Laporta with Messi’s representatives as of yet.

However, it is unlikely that Messi showing up in the city is going to dispel rumors that he will return to a club for whom he scored 672 goals in 778 matches over a 17-year spell; winning four Champions Leagues and an incredible ten La Liga titles during his time with Barca.
