Atletico Madrid have signed Leicester City central defender Caglar Soyuncu on a pre-contract agreement, according to Turkish Ertan Süzgün.
The Leicester City man, who joined the club in 2018 from Bundesliga outfit Freiburg has found himself horribly out of form this season for a Foxes side who have conceded 56 goals in the Premier League this season.
Atletico Madrid transfer news: Caglar Soyuncu heading to Spain
When the Turk first arrived at the King Power Stadium, he impressed many critics with his early performances and had been tipped to be one of the hottest new center-backs around Europe. However, a dip in form at club level and an abysmal Euro 2020 campaign with Turkey saw Soyuncu’s reputation as a defensive stalwart turn into somewhat of a liability and he has struggled to regain consistency this season as well.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is in the market for defensive reinforcements however, after letting Felipe leave for Nottingham Forest in January and once-dependable Montenegrin defender Stefan Savic finding it seemingly impossible to shake off injury problems that have lighted his season. On a free transfer, Soyuncu is seen as a good, squad signing by Simeone, who will pick up the Turk’s services on a four-year deal.
