Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy could leave Chelsea this summer after losing his place as the Blues’ number one.

The 31-year-old has been displaced by Spanish teammate Kepa Arrizabalaga after suffering a shoulder injury in December and has not started a league game this calendar year.

And according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mendy is already plotting an escape route out of Stamford Bridge by signing up with a new sports agency, Lian Sports, as he awaits to find out who will be appointed as the new Chelsea manager for next season.

Mendy has failed to reach the high standards he first set when he was signed by Frank Lampard in 2020 from French club Rennes for $27.5m and under Thomas Tuchel’s stewardship, the Senegalese won the Champions League in his debut season with the Blues, becoming the first African goalkeeper to play in a Champions League final since 1985.

During that campaign, Mendy equaled the record of most clean sheets in a Champions League season with nine. Mendy’s fitness and form have seen him slip behind Arrizabalaga this season however in a torrid campaign for the Blues which currently sees them languishing 11th in the league.
