La Liga president Javier Tebas has said Sergio Busquets’ departure from Barcelona could open the door for a return to the Nou Camp for Lionel Messi.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, the La Liga chief said, “The departure of Busquets is the beginning of the road for Messi to return, but there is still a long way to go”.
Messi’s Barcelona reunion takes one step closer
Tebas declared that Barcelona would need to “walk a few meters” to re-sign their all-time record goalscorer. Still, the tone of his messages differs significantly from an interview he gave last month in which the La Liga president said “Today I don’t see his (Messi’s) signing as feasible”.
As well documented, Messi is out of contract at PSG at the end of the season and is destined to leave the club, with a world record-breaking deal from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal worth around $442m a year still on the table for the Argentinian World Cup winner.
