Manchester City could be set for a summer move for the young, highly-rated RB Leipzig central defender Josko Gvardiol.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed another fine season for the Red Bull-owned club who were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16 by City 8-1 on aggregate over two legs, with the Croatian defender scoring Leipzig’s only goal in the tie.

Josko Gvardiol rumored with move to the Etihad Stadium

According to The Times’ Paul Hirst, a move for Gvardiol depends on the future of Aymeric Laporte, who has attracted the interest of La Liga champions Barcelona.

Laporte is looking to earn more game time to secure his place in the Spanish national team with next year’s European Championships just around the corner after losing his spot in Pep Guardiola’s side to summer signing Manuel Akanji and the emergence of Nathan Ake’s form.

RB Leipzig would welcome an offer for Gvardiol as they have to sell three players to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play requirements with Christopher Nkunku and Konrad Laimer set to join Chelsea and Bayern Munich respectively.

However, City would have to stump up a fee of around $107m for the Croatian, who starred in last year’s World Cup as his country made it to the semi-final stage.
