Barcelona’s Mateu Alemany has stated he is happy to stay in La Liga after being asked about his recent U-turn on leaving the club.

The 60-year-old was set to join Premier League side Aston Villa on 1 July when his contract at the Barcelona giants came to an end. But as reported earlier this week, Alemany changed his mind about making the move to Birmingham and will stay in his current role with former Barcelona midfielder Deco joining him at the Nou Camp.

And as reported by Spanish journalist Victor Navarro, Alemany said “I’m happy for La Liga” when asked about his decision.

Alemany was out celebrating with other club officials and Barcelona players, including Ansu Fati and Frenkie De Jong, after they clinched the La Liga title, their first since 2019.
