Newcastle United will offer Bruno Guimaraes a new contract to deter interest from new La Liga champions Barcelona.

Barca manager Xavi Hernandez is believed to be a huge fan of the all-action Brazilian midfielder but according to 90min football writers Tom Gott and Graeme Bailey, the Magpies remain confident they can convince Guimaraes that his future lies at St James’ Park with a new improved contract.

Brazilian sensation happy with life in Newcastle

Fan favorite Guimaraes is believed to be happy with life in the North East of England since his move in last year’s January transfer window from French club Lyon. His introduction into the team has helped propel a side flirting with relegation 18 months ago to Champions League qualifiers following a fantastic fourth-placed finish under Eddie Howe, the Geordies’ first for 20 years.

At this stage, Guimaraes is not believed to be a priority for the Catalan giants, who are expected to go all in on big-money moves to re-sign club captain and all-time record goal scorer Lionel Messi and Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan this summer.
