Real Madrid club captain and star striker Karim Benzema is expected to announce that he is leaving the Bernabeu after 14 years at the club.

Benzema has enjoyed a wonderfully successful time at Los Blancos since arriving from French club Lyon in 2009, winning five Champions Leagues, five FIFA Club World Cups, and four La Liga’s amongst many other titles.

Los Blancos skipper set to choose Saudi Arabia

And according to reputable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the French forward is set to choose Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad over a further year at the Bernabeu in a press conference in Madrid later today.

This means that Madrid’s match against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday will be Benzema’s last in an all-white shirt as he prepares to sign an eye-watering deal worth approximately $107m a year.

However, Benzema’s legacy in Madrid has already been firmly established, with his 353 goals in all competitions for the Merengues meaning he currently sits as Real’s all-time second-highest goalscorer,  behind ex-teammate and fellow Saudi Arabia inhabitant Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as the club’s all-time top assist provider.
