Newcastle United have expressed an interest in Hertha Berlin striker Derry Scherhant.
The 20-year-old is open to a move away from the German capital this summer following Hertha’s relegation to the second tier.
Newcastle looking at Scherhant
The Magpies have been monitoring the progression of Scherhant throughout the season, according to The Telegraph. Newcastle are plotting ambitious moves for a number of top stars this summer, but they also remain interested in adding young emerging talent.
Scherhant came through the youth ranks at Hertha, before he made his professional debut in August 2022. The 20-year-old played 10 times in the German top-flight last term, with his only goal coming in a 4-1 home win over Borussia Monchengladbach in February.
He also impressed by Hertha II, as he scored 20 goals in 43 appearances for the youth side in the Regionalliga between 2021 and 2023.
However, the striker remains a sought-after option from around Europe, with Man United and a number of Italian clubs also assessing whether to make a formal approach.
