MLS side DC United have been rumored with making a shock move for ex-Everton and Tottenham midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The 33-year-old has been without a club since leaving Goodison Park in 2022 after his contract expired following his $50m transfer from Swansea.
Gylfi Sigurdsson set to return to football in MLS?
According to Daily Mail writer Adam Shergood the capital city club are investigating financing a deal to make the Icelander one of their designated overseas players. Current DC United head coach Wayne Rooney played with the attacking midfielder during his second spell at the Toffees and is reportedly keen to use his experience to help qualify for the MLS Cup knockout phases with Sigurdsson due in Washington this week for talks.
However, the Icelander will be short of match fitness with his last professional game coming over two years ago in a 5-0 Premier League defeat away to Manchester City in May 2021 after he was left out of the Everton Premier League squad for the 2021-2022 season.
