The Manchester-born midfielder was able to represent England, Pakistan, and Iraq at international level due to the nation of his parents’ birth but has decided to choose the latter, for whom Iqbal has now played three times already.

The news was officially confirmed by Utrecht’s official social media platforms with the deal including a 40% sell-on and buy-back clause with sources close to the deal believing Iqbal had not developed well enough physically to deal with the demands of the Premier League but the club have not ruled out re-signing the youngster if he kicks on in the Netherlands.
