Pep Guardiola’s assistant Rodolfo Borrell is set to leave Man City to take over as Sporting Director at MLS side Austin FC.

The 52-year-old Barcelona-born assistant head coach initially joined the Cityzens nine years ago after leaving Liverpool in 2014 and since the arrival of Guardiola in 2016, Borrell has become the former Barca boss’s most trusted lieutenant.

Man City set to lose another assistant coach

Borrell is set to become the fourth member of Guardiola’s backroom staff to have left the club in as many years following Mikel Arteta’s appointment as head coach of Arsenal, Juanma Lillo’s departure to the Qatari Stars League, and the announcement Enzo Maresca will take charge of Leicester City earlier this month.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Guardiola’s top assistant and former Global Technical Director Borrell will sign a multiyear deal at the Western Conference outfit after The Oaks’ terrific campaign last year which saw them finish as Western Conference runners-up behind LAFC.
