Manchester United are preparing to make an offer to Aston Villa for their World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

The Red Devils are currently considering candidates to replace current long-standing number one David De Gea amid speculation over the Spaniard’s future at Old Trafford.

De Gea’s contract at Old Trafford is set to run out on Friday and United boss Erik Ten Hag sees a new shot-stopper as a number one priority this summer with Old Trafford chiefs already sounding out Inter Milan’s Andre Onana and Porto’s Diogo Costa as potential acquisitions.

According to Football Insider’s Wayne Versey, however, Emiliano Martinez is also highly rated by United’s recruitment team, who have been watching the World Cup winner closely over the latest three years flourish into one of the league’s best shot-stoppers.

Martinez, who has made a name for himself for being a brilliant penalty saver, has admitted he would not turn down a move away from Villa Park this summer but would command a figure of around $50m with the Argentinian contracted to Unai Emery’s side until June 2027.
