Manchester United’s long-standing interest in Frenkie de Jong could be explored once again this summer, with Barcelona needing to release players to raise funds.

United spent the entirety of the 2022 summer transfer window chasing the Dutchman, before turning their attentions to Casemiro.

Man United open to fresh Frenkie de Jong approach

The Red Devils could face competition for the midfielder this summer, as Bayern Munich have reportedly made an approach, according to 90Min.

Bayern are in the market for a midfielder this summer, and they have switched their attention to de Jong after falling short in their bid to tempt Declan Rice to the Bundesliga.

However, United retain an interest in the Barcelona star, with Erik ten Hag having previously worked with the 26-year-old at Ajax. Should Barcelona look to offload the midfielder, United will step up their approach.

The clubs agreed on a fee worth $90 million last summer, but the deal eventually fell through due to the millions owed to de Jong by Barcelona in deferred wages.
