Tottenham appear to have fought off competition from Newcastle United in the race to sign James Maddison this summer.

Latest indications from Fabrizio Romano have reported that Spurs have a verbal agreement of $45 million to sign the attacking midfielder from Leicester City.

Tottenham beat Newcastle in race for Maddison

Newcastle United had been the front-runners to sign the England international, but the latest reports claim that they have fallen short in their approach.

Spurs have now moved ahead of the Magpies in the race for Maddison, and a deal worth $45 million has been agreed. The reports have claimed that personal terms aren’t likely to be an issue, and a medical has already been arranged.

The 26-year-old scored ten goals in 30 Premier League appearances last season, and added nine assists. However, he was helpless in saving Leicester City from relegation to the Championship.

Maddison was also named in England’s recent squad, and featured in both qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.
