Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli have entered the race to sign Manchester United target Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.

The 26-year-old is in high demand after an excellent season for both club and country in which he helped lead the Florence-based outfit to the UEFA Conference League final last season and was a major part of the Moroccan side which reached the World Cup semi-final against all odds last winter.

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Auona, Al Ahli are insisting on signing the defensive midfielder, and club officials have met with Amrabat’s older brother and fellow Moroccan international, Nordin, who is involved in the potential transfer.

It would be Amrabat’s preference to remain in Europe after the Red Devils joined Atletico Madrid in the race for the 26-year-old’s services earlier this week.

Fiorentina are believed to be holding out for a fee of around $35m for one of their most valued assets but any move from United will likely depend on the club receiving offers for Scott McTominay and Fred.
