Manchester United have suffered a blow in their hunt for a new number-two goalkeeper, as reports in Japan have claimed that Zion Suzuki has turned down the chance to move to Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old was subject to interest from the Red Devils, and a deal between United and Urawa Red Diamonds was reportedly close last week. However, United will now need to turn their attention to other targets if reports at Sponichi are to be believed.

The Red Devils had made the Japanese keeper their preferred number two option.

But, the reports in Japan have claimed that Suzuki has turned down the opportunity to move to the Premier League giants, as he wishes to play regular games in order to secure his place in Japan’s Olympic squad next summer.

United had scouted the 20-year-old for six years, but the club have quickly moved on to other targets, with a move for Fenerbahce stopper Altay Bayindir appearing to be their priority.
