Chelsea are considering making a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti after seemingly losing out to Liverpool for first-choice defensive midfield target Moises Caicedo at the last minute.
According to Foot Mercato, Verratti is prioritizing a move to another European club after attracting interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.
Marco Verratti set for Chelsea switch?
The Blues are continuing to finalize a move for USMNT captain Tyler Adams and have not completely lost hope of being able to salvage a move for Brighton midfielder Caicedo. However, Verratti’s decade-long experience at the top level of European football would add a different dimension to a Chelsea midfield that still lacks bite just 48 hours before their season opener against Liverpool on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
The Parisians are reportedly happy to let both Verratti and Brazilian forward Neymar this summer as new coach Luis Enrique’s remold continues. Verratti, a vocal member of the French champions’ dressing room, is not part of Enrique’s long-term plans and has recently trained away from the first-team squad alongside bad boy Kylian Mbappe.
