Newcastle United appear to have missed out on one of their top summer targets, as the deadline to make an approach for Serhou Guirassy has passed.

The Magpies had been long-term admirers of the Stuttgart defender, but a move to St. James’ Park now looks unlikely, according to Kicker.

Newcastle were among three Premier League clubs showing an interest in Guirassy. West Ham and Nottingham Forest were also in the market for the striker.

However, the English trio appears to have missed their opportunity to sign the forward. Reports have claimed that the $15 million clause in his contract expired on August 11.

That means that Stuttgart can now reject any approach for the striker. Guirassy impressed in the Bundesliga last term, as he scored 14 goals for Stuttgart in the German top-flight.

It is believed that Newcastle chose to overlook a move for the forward, as they are prioritizing a move for a central defender.
