German giants Bayern Munich have held talks with ex-Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea’s representatives over a move this summer.

The 32-year-old is available as a free agent after leaving the Red Devils last month. The Spaniard had been United’s first-choice shot-stopper for 12 years before his departure and according to reputable German journalist Florian Plettenberg, De Gea has given a move to the Allianz Arena the green light.

Is David De Gea set for Bayern switch?

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is on the lookout for a new goalkeeper after missing out on a season-long loan to Real Madrid for Kepa Arrizabalaga. De Gea would provide excellent competition for German number one and club captain Manuel Neuer who is still struggling for fitness with a leg injury.

A move for De Gea could be completed soon if Bayern are unsuccessful in luring Stefan Ortega from Manchester City after the 30-year-old spoke with Tuchel on the phone this week. City and Bayern continue to have a good relationship despite Kyle Walker’s prospective transfer breaking down this summer and a deal for the German shot-stopper could be completed after City’s participation in tonight’s UEFA Super Cup final in Athens.

However, City head coach Pep Guardiola is prepared to fight to keep his backup keeper, saying in his pre-match press conference yesterday: “We don’t want to sell him and we don’t want to loan him. I’m sorry but we want him for a long time.

It always depends on three parties, yes, but we’d have to go back on the market to find a replacement in two weeks. We want Ortega”.
