Manchester United have completed the signing of Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to replace outgoing back-up shot-stopper Dean Henderson.

Turkish international Bayindir, 25, is extremely highly rated in his homeland and helped his side to the Turkish Cup title last June.

The move was confirmed by United’s official club website and sees Bayindir put pen to paper over a four-year deal with the Old Trafford club.

The fee for Bayindir is reportedly $5.5m, a figure cheaper than first understood.

Bayindir becomes the first-ever Turk to play for the Red Devils and showed his delight in signing for the Premier League giants, saying: “I cannot wait to start working with such an experienced goalkeeping unit. We will support each other and drive high standards every day so that each of us is ready to perform whenever called upon.”

Bayindir has displaced Dean Henderson as United’s second-choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford this season after the England international completed his permanent transfer to Crystal Palace last night.

Henderson, who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, signed a five-year deal at Selhurst Park and will compete with Sam Johnstone for the number-one spot in South London.

Palace will pay a total package of $25.3m ($19m plus $6.3m in add-ons) for the 26-year-old who was a substitute during United’s nervy 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Speaking for the first time as a Palace player, Henderson said, “This club has got great fans and has a lot of top players. I’m absolutely delighted and buzzing to be here. I can’t wait to get started”.
