Kevin Nolan has revealed that Harry Maguire was ‘very close’ to signing for West Ham United in the summer transfer window.
A fee between the Hammers and Manchester United had been agreed in principle, but the deal fell through after the central defender and Red Devils couldn’t agree on a compensation package.

The Hammers were keen to add Maguire to their squad throughout the summer, and the club’s assistant manager told Talksport that he believed that the deal was ‘very close’.
However, Maguire ultimately decided to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place in Erik ten Hag’s side.
It has been a challenging week for the defender on the field, as he scored an own goal in England’s 3-1 victory over Scotland on Tuesday.
But, Gareth Southgate leaped to the defense of one of his key players, by revealing that outsiders and the media should give Maguire more respect following his excellent performances for the Three Lions over recent years.
