Portuguese international midfielder Joao Palhinha has signed a new long-term contract at Fulham in a seemingly shock U-turn.

The 28-year-old had been widely expected to hold out for a move to German giants Bayern Munich in January after seeing a move on transfer deadline day collapse.

The news is a huge boost to Fulham and Marco Silva who were thought to have been resigned to losing their star asset. Palhinha’s new contract will keep him at Fulham until June 2028, with the defensive midfielder having the option of a further year afterward at Craven Cottage.

Speaking to the club’s in-house media team, Palhinha said, “A lot of history happened for me, you heard a lot of things about my future, but I’m just focused on Fulham. I always have 100% commitment with this club. I am ready to start again, to give all my best.”

Palhinha’s announcement came at the same time it was confirmed his midfield partner Harrison Reed had also put pen to paper over a new deal, keeping him at the Cottagers until 2027 with an option of a further year.
