German outfit RB Leipzig have publically confirmed that they are looking to sign young star Xavi Simons on a permanent basis.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has impressed many pundits at the start of this season following his loan move from Paris Saint-Germain and club officials have confirmed they are now plotting a way to extend his time at the club.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday night’s DFB Cup clash against SV Wehen Wiesbaden, Leipzig Sporting Director Max Eberl told German sports magazine Kicker, as stated by Fabrizio Romano, “We are now trying to ensure that he stays with us longer than summer 2024.”

Simons’ loan switch to Leipzig took many by surprise after he had just been signed by the Parisians after the Ligue 1 champions triggered the $6.4m buy-back clause in his contract at PSV Eindhoven in July.

The German club have publically stated they are confident of striking a deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Simons, however, with Erbel adding, “Xavi got off to a very good start and we are currently tying him emotionally to RB Leipzig.”
