Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes has been ruled out until next year.

The former Leicester man, who only moved to St James’ Park in July for $50m following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League, suffered an “unusual injury” according to head coach Eddie Howe.

Speaking ahead of their Premier League clash at home to Burnley tomorrow, Howe added; “He’s going to be out for around three months. No surgery is required which is good news but his foot is now in a boot. It’s an injury underneath his toe.”

Barnes limped off in just the 12th minute of Newcastle’s 8-0 romp at Sheffield United and immediately signaled to the bench that he had to come off.

The 25-year-old will now undergo a period on the treatment table before undergoing rehabilitation away from the first-team squad.
