Revenge is on the mind for Wolves against Watford

|

There are so many great things about football, to the point where it’d be literally impossible to list all of them in any one given place. Of course, there’s a lot of heartbreak that comes with being a football fan, which is an emotion that Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters will know all too much about.

Wolves will be going one on one with Watford this weekend in what we believe to be the most intriguing game in the Premier League over the next few days. A lot of folks will disagree with that, but there’s just so much to love about this fixture – and, as most of you will know by now, that has a lot to do with what went down at Wembley a few weeks ago.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men went into the game with a lot of confidence, and after they were able to race into a 2-0 lead within the hour, that confidence continued to grow. It seemed as if the Midlands-based club were well on their way to the FA Cup Final, and then, seemingly in the blink of an eye, it all disappeared.

Heartbreak in London

Watford were able to claw two goals back to take it into extra time, before winning it in the additional 30 minutes. It was the kind of comeback that quite literally came out of nowhere, and it left Wolves fans feeling pretty numb in the hours, days and even weeks following.

But with great power comes great responsibility, and now, the pressure is on Watford to try and replicate that feat when they take on Wolves once again this weekend – but this time, in the league.

The juicy part about this is that both sides are battling it out for seventh place, which we all know to be the ‘outsider’s’ golden ticket into Europe. However, the only way in which you can qualify for the Europa League via seventh this season is if Manchester City win the FA Cup.

The next chapter

City will, obviously, be going one on one with the Hornets at Wembley, which has led some fans to believe that Javi Gracia’s men will just sit back and not put their all into this game. That seems like a foolish line of thinking, though, because if Watford can finish seventh, they’ll be guaranteed that European adventure regardless of what happens against City.

For Wolves this has already been an incredible season full of some phenomenal moments, but they’re still one or two steps away from breaking into Europe. Some have suggested their squad isn’t good enough to play at that level, but you just never know what they’re going to do over the summer.

Whatever happens these two teams are going to look back and remember some great things about this season, but in equal measure, they’ll always remember this miniature rivalry that they shared with one another.

Logic dictates that Watford are going to be the favourites heading into the game, but when has logic ever played a part in this game? Wolves are the ones who currently reside in seventh, and yet, it feels like Watford are the ones with the pressure on their shoulders.
