Real Madrid win the race for Serbian starlet

|

It seems that Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has already started the process of rebuilding his squad this summer, as according to Sky Sports, Los Blancos signed Serbian striker Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt. The youngster will reportedly cost the club from the Spanish capital £52.4million, with Jovic’s former club Benfica receiving around £10.5million from the deal. Frankfurt only activated a clause to sign the striker on a permanent basis last month.

Emerged as a star this season

Prior to this season, Jovic had previously been talked about as a potential future star. However, his loan stint in Frankfurt this season has saw the 21-year-old emerged as one of the most promising young stars in the world game.

At one-point Jovic topped the Bundesliga scoring charts. In the end, the youngster scored 17 times in the German top-flight, as well as netting ten goals in the Europa League. His performance obviously did not go unnoticed, as many of Europe’s top clubs were then monitoring his performances.

Real not Barcelona his destination this summer

Earlier this season Barcelona were the favourites to sign Jovic, as a long-term replacement for ageing Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez. However, it seems that Barcelona will land long-term transfer target Antoine Griezmann this summer from Atletico Madrid.

The 28-year-old World Cup winner has been a big-money target for the Catalan giants for at least two summers. With Griezmann heading to the Nou Camp, signing Jovic as well this summer would have been financially problematic for Barcelona.

With Barcelona out of the race, Real Madrid have taken full advantage and snapped up the promising Serbian star. Jovic certainly looks like an exciting signing. He seems to be a young player with many of the attributes to become a world class player in the future.

Zidane will overhaul the Real Madrid squad this summer

Reports from Spain suggest that Zidane is set to overhaul his Real Madrid squad this summer after a poor campaign. Los Blancos will finish third in La Liga, having exited the Champions League at the last-16 stage. By Real Madrid standards that that is a disastrous campaign. Los Blancos will once again be underdogs behind arch-rivals Barcelona for the Spanish top-flight title.

With a number of players in their thirties. Zidane needs to bring in fresh faces and shake-up a squad that seems to have been sleepwalking through the last season. The signing of Jovic is likely just the beginning of Real Madrid’s summer rebuilding programme.

The Spanish giants have been linked with summer moves for a number of high-profile players, including Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe of PSG, amongst others.

There seems no doubt that Real Madrid’s squad will look a lot different to the one that struggled for success this season. Many star names could come and go this summer. However, the signing of the highly promising Luka Jovic may just prove to be the best piece of business that Los Blancos have completed in a long time.
