Silva admits he will be leaving Manchester City next summer

|

Manchester City’s veteran midfield playmaker David Silva has revealed that next season will be his last playing for the Citizens. The 33-year-old has enjoyed a glittering nine-year spell with the men from Manchester after joining from Spanish club Valencia in 2010.

Confirmation in a press conference in Gran Canaria

Silva confirmed the news in a press conference in Gran Canaria. When asked if he could stay at City beyond next season, he is quoted by Sky Sports as saying: “No, this is the last one,”

“Ten years for me is enough. It’s the perfect time for me. Silva signed a new one-year deal earlier this year and continued by saying “Initially, City were talking about two years, but I decided to sign another one, so I finished at 10 years,”.

David Silva one of the best players in the Premier League era

When we talk about great Premier League players, the Spaniard is rather often overlooked in the debate. However, David Silva is one of the most technically gifted players to grace the English top-flight in the last two decades.

Not only does he have superb technical ability, but his football intelligence is also off the charts. As he has got older he has adapted his game slightly and is still influencing games for City, even at 33-years of age. He is still scoring goals and picking up assists, in a highly expensive and talented squad.

Not many players have had such an influence over such a long period as David Silva has in his Premier League career. Even last season the midfielder made 33 appearances in the English top-flight. That was despite boss Pep Guardiola stating that he may play slightly less football in the 2018/19 campaign.

A major medal collection

David Silva has played a key part in Manchester City going from a mediocre team to a team that challenges for the big trophies at home an abroad. The Spaniard has been involved in the most successful period of the club’s history.

He has won the Premier League title four times, the League Cup four times and also won the FA Cup on two occasions. He must have a room in his house just to keep his medals. The silverware collection could grow even bigger next season.

David Silva will be hoping to leave Manchester on a high note next summer. The one medal that has eluded him during his decade long career at City has been the Champions League. Once again Guardiola’s team will start the campaign as favourites to win Europe’s elite competition.

If ever there was a player who deserved to win the Champions League then it is Silva. Not only is he a good footballer, but he also comes as a nice and humble person in interviews. He has every chance of winning that elusive medal next season.

Even if City do not win the Champions League in the coming season, David Silva will go down as a Manchester City and Premier League legend.
