Christian Eriksen may still leave Tottenham this summer

|

According to the Daily Express, Manchester United have made Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen their primary transfer target before the summer transfer window shuts on Thursday evening. The Denmark international is also believed to be interested in making the move to United. Reports from elsewhere suggest that Eriksen could be available for around £50million.

Eriksen has stated he wants to leave this summer

The 27-year-old former Ajax star’s future with Spurs has been in doubt since a statement earlier this summer in which he stated that he feels that it may be the right time for a new challenge in his career. At that point of the summer, it looked as though the Dane was heading to Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, Los Blancos then shell out on other costly additions and a move failed to materialise.

He is a key player for Spurs, but the midfielder is out of contract next summer. The north London club would then not receive a fee when the Danish international left. Therefore, selling this summer is understandable.

Tottenham have previously been heavily linked with a move to Real Betis and Argentina star Giovani Lo Celso. However, it now seems more likely Spurs will turn their attention to Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernanes, who ironically has been linked with United.

Would be a great signing for Manchester United

Christian Eriksen would be a great signing for Manchester United. The Denmark international has become one of the most consistent players in his position in the Premier League in the last half a decade. He consistently produces goals and assists from midfield.

Last season French midfielder Paul Pogba was the one who threatened goals from midfield. However, none of the other Red Devils midfielders possessed even close to the sort attacking threat that Eriksen gives a team.

The arrival of Eriksen at Old Trafford could lead to further speculation over the United future of the aforementioned Pogba. Reports suggest that Zinedine Zidane’s outfit are still attempting to negotiate a deal to take the French midfielder to the Spanish capital.

Although Eriksen and Pogba are different sorts of players, Eriksen would certainly not be a terrible replacement for the former Juventus man, if he did leave for Real Madrid.

United have competition for Eriksen

Manchester United are currently the favourites to sign Christian Eriksen. However, the likes of Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also reportedly interested in signing the playmaker before the transfer window shuts.

Atletico have undergone a massive change in personnel this summer. The likes of Antoine Griezmann, Rodri and Diego Godin among others have left the club. Boss Diego Simeone is attempting to assemble a side that can compete with neighbours Real Madrid and of course reigning champions Barcelona.

Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri looks set to have fresh transfer funds with full-back Joao Cancelo set to join Manchester City in a deal worth around £30million plus Brazilian utility man Danilo.

However, with time running out, it seems that United are in pole position to complete a deal for Eriksen. If they can pull it off, it could prove to be one of the shrewdest deals of the summer, as Eriksen is a proven Premier League player, who is in his peak years.

Will Christian Eriksen be plying his trade at Manchester United in season 2019/20?
