On Friday night, RB Leipzig have the chance to move to the top of the Bundesliga table as they visit Borussia Monchengladbach, who have a poor recent home record on home soil in the German top-flight.

Monchengladbach (Odds for victory 13/5)

Monchengladbach enjoyed a mixed campaign in the Bundesliga last season. However, the Foals will be content with taking four points from their opening two league games this time around.

They opened the season with a goalless draw against Schalke before recording a 3-1 win at Mainz in their last Bundesliga outing. The win against Mainz was only Gladbach’s second win in their last seven games in the German top-flight.

While Monchengladbach have been inconsistent in the Bundesliga, one facet of their game that has stayed consistent is their home form, as it has stayed consistently bad in recent months.

In fact, the Foals have not won in the Bundesliga on home soil since February, which includes nine matches. One of those nine winless matches was a 2-1 defeat by Friday night’s visitors. Gladbach have struggled to keep teams out on home soil in the German top-flight, conceding at least twice in three of their last four home games.

RB Leipzig (Odds for victory evens)

The team from Leipzig have emerged as a genuine threat to the Bundesliga elite of Bayern Munich and Dortmund this season. The Red Bulls have established themselves as a regular in the German top-six since their promotion.

The appointment of the highly-rated young head coach Julian Nagelsmann may just push Leipzig to the next level. They have certainly started the campaign in fine fettle, hammering Union Berlin 4-0 before a 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt last time out.

They received some good news prior to the win over Frankfurt, in that star striker Timo Werner signed a contract extension. The forward has scored in both of Leipzig’s league games so far.

The visitors have certainly made themselves hard to beat in recent months in the Bundesliga, having lost just once in 18 league games. A record of eight victories from their last 11 league games is not a terrible one either.

Leipzig have become renowned for their attacking play in recent seasons and that looks unlikely to change under the talented Nagelsmann. In fact, the visitors have now scored at least twice in eight of their last ten league outings.

The Red Bulls have a strong recent away record in the German top-flight, winning eight times in their last ten outings on their travels. Once again, the visitors attacking prowess has been evident in their recent away matches, as they have scored at least twice in seven of their ten games.

Prediction

Leipzig are the favourites to record another win in this clash. They look to have a bright future ahead of them in the Bundesliga, especially after the very shrewd appointment of Nagelsmann as head coach.

Monchengladbach, by contrast, have been the definition of inconsistent in recent seasons. They are unlikely to be easy opponents for the visitors. However, we expect RB Leipzig to move to the top of the Bundesliga table by recording a victory in a high-scoring clash.

Verdict: Back the away win at evens and/or over 2.5 goals at odds of 8/13 (all odds taken Bet365).
