Toffees see off Wolves, as the Gunners and Spurs draw

Sunday’s Premier League action from gameweek four saw some top entertainment and an avalanche of goals. Here is what happened in Sunday’s clashes:

Everton grind out win over Wolves

Everton took the lead on three occasions to finally grind out a deserved 3-2 victory Wolves at Goodison Park.

The Toffees took the lead on five minutes through a terrible defensive mix-up. Centre-back Conor Coady and goalkeeper got in a mix up that led to Moise Kean blocking a clearance and Richarlison miss-hitting the rebound into the ground and then the net.

The lead lasted just four minutes though. Adama Traore beat Lucas Digne and saw Seamus Coleman fail to clear, only for midfielder Roman Saiss to be in the right place at the right time to slot home from close-range.

Parity lasted just three minutes though, as a superb team resulted in Alex Iwobi heading past Patricio from a Gylfi Sigurdsson pin-point cross. The goal was the Nigerian’s second in as many starts for the Toffees.

The lead lasted until the 75th minute when Mexican striker Raul Jimenez headed home bravely at the far post after Willy Boly had flicked on a Ryan Bennett long-throw. It looked like the tired visitors had done enough to claim a point from their trip to Merseyside. However, Everton found a winning goal with just ten minutes remaining on the clock.

Lucas Digne did well to engineer a cross down the left and Richarlison rose superbly to bullet a header past Patricio. In stoppage-time, Boly received a second yellow card and then a red for a crude tackle on the Toffees winning-goal scorer.

The result leaves Everton sixth place heading into the international break. On this display, their status as outsiders for a top-six place this season could well have some foundations. Wolves have now failed to win any of their top-flight games this season.

Gunners recover from two-goals down to rescue derby point

Arsenal came back from two goals down to rescue a 2-2 draw against Tottenham in the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

Tottenham took just ten minutes to open the scoring on their rivals own patch. Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno parried an Erik Lamela shot and Christian Eriksen had the simple task of scoring with the rebound.

Both teams had chances before Tottenham doubled their lead on 39 minutes. Granit Xhaka produced a silly lunge on Heung Min-Son and derby specialist Harry Kane made no mistake with the spot-kick.

Arsenal got back in the game in first-half stoppage-time, as Alexandre Lacazette picked up a Nicolas Pepe pass and smashed an effort past Hugo Lloris at his near post.

The Gunners then pushed for an equaliser and finally found one with 19 minutes left on the clock. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found space between the two Arsenal centre-backs and poked home from a brilliant Matteo Guendouzi cross.

Arsenal looked to have won it with ten minutes left on the clock. Greek international Sokratis scored from close-range after a dangerous cross from Sead Kolasinac. The referee’s assistant flagged the goal for offside. A VAR check confirmed the decision.

The draw leaves Arsenal fifth place in the table ahead of the break. Tottenham are ninth after taking just five points from their first four league matches.
