Athletic Bilbao will look to continue their promising start to their La Liga campaign when they visit Real Mallorca on Friday night.

Real Mallorca (Odds of 12/5 for victory)

The Islanders are in the Spanish top-flight for the first time in six years this season. They made a bright start to life back in La Liga by recording an opening weekend home win over Eibar. However, the home side has now lost their last two league games against Real Sociedad and last time out Valencia. The home side also failed to score in both La Liga defeats.

Despite their relegation from La Liga in their last stint in the Spanish top-flight, Mallorca have a decent recent home record. In fact, the home defeat against Sociedad earlier in the campaign ended an unbeaten run of six games on home soil in La Liga.

The Islanders had also been pretty effective in front of goal on home soil in the Spanish top-flight prior to the loss, having scored in their previous 12 home matches.

The recent history of this fixture is against the home side, as they have lost five of their last six meetings with Athletic in all competitions.

Athletic Bilbao (Odds of 5/4 for victory)

Athletic Bilbao have started the new league campaign by picking up seven points from a possible nine. In fact, the Basques currently sit second place in the fledgling La Liga table.

Athletic recorded a famous 1-0 win over Barcelona on the opening weekend of the season before drawing 1-1 at Getafe and beating Real Sociedad 2-0 last time out in the Spanish top-flight. The visitors recent La Liga games this season have all been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in all three matches.

The good start to the campaign will come as a relief, as Athletic finished the previous campaign in an inconsistent manner. The good start may just raise expectations at the club that they can once again challenge for a European spot this season.

One negative for the Basque side heading into this clash is their recent away record, as they have won just once in six games on their travels in La Liga. To make matters worse, Athletic have also lost four of those six matches. Despite their poor recent away record, the boys from Bilbao are the favourites to record a victory in this clash.

Their recent away games have been in-keeping with Athletic games in recent years, in that they have been low-scoring, as their last four away matches in La Liga have produced under 2.5 goals.

Prediction

Athletic Bilbao look full of confidence at the moment and will be highly confident of maintaining their good start to the season. Real Mallorca on the upper hand seem to be still adjusting to life back in the Spanish top-flight.

We are backing the away win at odds of 5/4, while the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 1/ 2 does not look a terrible bet either, considering that Athletic have had a tendency to be involved in low-scoring games of late.

Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 5/4 and/or the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 1/ 2 (all odds from Bet 365).
