Prediction and odds for the game: Wycombe (8/5) v Fleetwood (13/8)

We are backing the home win

When: Tuesday 11th February 2020, Kick-off 7:45 PM

Where: Adams Park

On Tuesday night, Wycombe Wanderers and Fleetwood Town clash at Adams Park, in a match that could have big implications on the race for promotion in League One.

Wycombe

Despite a recent run of inconsistent form in the third tier, Wanderers are still in one of the automatic promotion spots. Gareth Ainsworth’s team are just three points behind league leaders Rotherham, but also just a point clear of third-place Peterborough, who have played an extra game.

Back to Wanderers inconsistency, the home side has won just three of their last ten league outings. One of those wins came in a 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers last time out. Their recent league matches have been high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six outings in League One.

Wycombe have built their promotion challenge on good home form, as they have lost just once at Adams Park in League One this season. In fact, Wanderers have won seven of their last nine matches on home soil in the third tier, including their last three outings.

Ainsworth’s team have struggled for goals this season, as only one team in League One’s top 11 has scored fewer league goals.

Fleetwood Town

While Wycombe are eying automatic promotion, Fleetwood will still believe that they can make the play-off spots this season. The Cod Army are currently three points outside the top-six, although they have a game in-hand on sixth-place Sunderland.

Joey Barton’s team has been difficult to beat of late, losing just once in their last 11 League One matches. However, Town have drawn seven of those 11 matches in the third tier, which has hampered their bid for promotion this season.

The visitor’s recent away games in the third tier is inconsistent. However, a record of just two wins from their last eight matches on their travels is not a great one. Their recent League One matches on their travels have been relatively low scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last ten outings. The fact that Fleetwood have conceded at least two goals in that aforementioned run of eight games has been a big contributing factor.

The visitors will be looking to top scorer Paddy Madden for attacking inspiration, as the Irish striker has scored 14 in 28 League One appearances.

Conclusion

Wycombe have been inconsistent of late, while Fleetwood have just drawn too many league games of late. We are backing the home win, simply because Wanderers tend to be stronger on home soil. We are also taking a punt on over 2.5 goals due Wycombe high scoring home matches and the visitors high scoring away matches.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 8/5 and/or the over 2.5 goals scored at odds 43/40. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
