On Tuesday night, Coventry and Portsmouth clash at St Andrews in what could be a vital game in the race for promotion to the Championship.

Coventry City

The Sky Blues are enjoying a promising campaign in the English top-flight, as they currently sit fourth place in the table, just a point outside the automatic promotion spots in League One.

Mark Robins team are unbeaten in their last eight league outings, having recorded an impressive six victories in the process. Last time out they recorded a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers. The result means that both teams have scored in five of Coventry’s last seven league outings.

The groundshare with Birmingham for the current season has worked out well for the Sky Blues, as City have suffered just one defeat in 14 games at their temporary home. They are also on a run of seven home games unbeaten in League One.

Their recent home matches in the third tier have been relatively low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last nine league outings.

The visitors are just a point worse off than the home side, so will also be eying automatic promotion. A victory in this clash could prove vital if they are to have any chance of going up automatically.

Pompey are unbeaten in six league games, having recorded five straight League One victories. A 2-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers on Saturday saw Kenny Jackett’s team keep their fourth straight clean sheet in the third tier of English football. The recent shootouts have contributed to five of Portsmouth’s last six league matches producing under 2.5 goals.

Portsmouth have a good recent away record in League One, as they are four matches undefeated on their travels. In fact, the visitors have recorded three consecutive wins on the road in League One.

The aforementioned win over Tranmere means that the visitors have kept three straight clean sheets on their travels in League One. The recent clean sheets have led to under 2.5 goals scored in their last four league outings.

A big positive for Portsmouth heading into this clash is that they are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Coventry in all competitions.

There is very little between these two teams in both form and league positions at the minute. This is why we are backing this game to finish all square. We are also backing the under 2.5, as Coventry’s home games have been low scoring, as have Portsmouth league games in general.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 9/4 and/or we are backing under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 13/20. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
