We had another day of exciting Premier League action on Saturday as the top flight of English football attempted to help everyone forget about the impending second national lockdown that is set to come into effect on Thursday. In the wake of Wolves’ win over Crystal Palace on Friday night we saw Manchester City kickstart the action with a narrow victory over Sheffield United, easing the pressure on the shoulders of Pep Guardiola ever so slightly as his quest to reclaim the Premier League title continues.

Then, however, we got onto the two main events of the day/night as Liverpool hosted West Ham United and Chelsea travel to Lancashire in order to take on Burnley.

The Reds survive

One thing is clear when it comes to Liverpool Football Club this season – things aren’t exactly going to plan. From Alisson and van Dijk getting injured to Aston Villa sticking seven goals past them, it’s hardly been a predictable few months for the Reds. With that being said, though, they’re still residing at the top of the Premier League table, which says an awful lot about their resilience.

They showcased that resilience once again last night against West Ham United, a team that has also shocked quite a few people with some really strong performances during the early stages of the campaign. After falling behind before equalising through a fortunate penalty, Diogo Jota was the man who stepped up and announced himself to the world as the new ‘it factor’ at Anfield.

The Portuguese star has served as a huge addition to Liverpool’s squad and it won’t be long before fans are starting to ask for him to start on a more regular basis.

Chelsea put on a show

The big worry for Chelsea fans has been their inability to balance a handful of attacking stars with a poor defensive structure. Now, though, after picking up yet another clean sheet whilst thriving in the final third, many are starting to wonder whether or not Frank Lampard has finally managed to put all of the right pieces in place at Stamford Bridge.

They were quick off the mark, they kept up a sustained level of pressure, and they never panicked. That’s the sort of combination that the Blues need if they’re serious about what they want to achieve between now and the end of the season.

Sunday specials

You can head on over to the betting page if you want to check out what other fixtures are available for you to bet on as we look ahead to a fascinating Sunday of PL action. There are four games to enjoy today, one more than on Saturday, and there are notable stakes attached to all of them.

Aston Villa will attempt to keep their unlikely European push going against Southampton, Everton will try and reclaim top spot against Newcastle, Manchester United will renew their historic rivalry with Arsenal and Tottenham will quietly try and break into the top four when they host Brighton & Hove Albion.
