There are just a handful of fixtures left before the Premier League hits the pause button in the name of yet another international break, but even before those games kick off, there are plenty of outcomes from over the weekend to work our way through and discuss. Even before Saturday we had two intriguing games go down on Friday night as Brighton & Burnley played out a 0-0 draw before Southampton confirmed their status as one of the surprise packages of the season by dominating Newcastle United in a 2-0 win.

We also saw a somewhat shocking result at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace ran out 4-1 winners over Leeds United, and while that isn’t necessarily a sign that the Yorkshire club are in trouble, it does showcase the struggles they could have if they continue to push forward as strongly as they have been thus far. In the late kickoff West Ham United were fortunate to pick up the win over Fulham, but again, that’s the sort of result you need to prove that you can push away from the relegation battle and look ahead to the top half.

While you can still head on over to the betting page to see what’s on offer, it’s always good to look back on the best of the best from the weekend – which is why we’re going to have a glance at Chelsea vs Sheffield United and Everton vs Manchester United.

Chelsea overcome Sheffield United

A lot of Chelsea fans jokingly suggested that the clash with Sheffield United was exactly the sort of game that could cause them some problems, regardless of how well they’ve started the season. After they fell behind early on the worries started to creep in, as you can probably imagine, but this time around the Blues didn’t crumble. Intead, they got right back up and let the Blades know they aren’t going anywhere.

Abraham and Chilwell gave them the lead before half time with Silva and Werner also getting in on the act, serving as official confirmation that this Chelsea team is really putting all of the right pieces in place. They may not challenge for the title straight away, but they’re definitely going to be keeping one eye on the Manchester City vs Liverpool showdown later today.

United get back on track

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was wearing a smile on his face from the minute he got off the team bus, to the point where it seemed like he had an ace up his sleeve – even when United went 1-0 down to Everton at Goodison Park. They didn’t panic, they didn’t go off course, and they stuck to the game plan that the Norwegian had put out for them.

The Red Devils were able to overcome the Toffees and, by doing so, probably save Solskjaer’s job. He hasn’t always been viewed as the best example of a player turned manager but if nothing else, the starting XI went out there and put on a show – with Bruno Fernandes being at the heart of that revival.
