German football set for an interesting managerial summer

The recent announcement that Germany national team head coach Joachim Low will leave his position after this summer’s European Championship could lead to an interesting situation when it comes to head coaches. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was immediately linked with the Mannschaft job. However, he moved quickly to state that he would not be leaving the current English champions this summer. There is no shortage of top German coaches to take the job, though.

Could Ralf Rangnick take the job?

The current favourite for the job is the experienced Ralf Rangnick, who for the last few decades has enhanced his reputation within the German game. However, his most recent roles have not been as a head coach, but as a sporting director. The 62-year-old has had a big hand in creating success at both Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, among others. He was recently linked with a switch to Schalke, but he has reported dismissed attention of the club from Gelsenkirchen.

Rangnick is one of the most respected football men in the German game. His tactical acumen has earned him the moniker of ‘the professor’. Rangnick is currently the favourite for the job. Flick to take national team job, with Nagelsmann moving to Bayern

One of the other scenarios seems to be that Bayern Munich’s ultra-successful head coach Hansi Flick could take the Germany job. The 56-year-old is another highly respected head coach in Germany and not just for the job he has done in Bavarian either. Flick was Joachim Low’s assistant coach from 2006 to 2014, as he helped the Mannschaft re-establish itself as one of the leading teams in the international game.

Flick would certainly have a lot of support within the German game. His record as Bayern Munich boss is certainly an impressive one. The exit of Flick at Bayern Munich could lead to wunderkind RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann taking the biggest job in the German domestic game. At just 34 years of age, the former Hoffenheim boss is regarded as one of the best head coaches in world football. Already the young head coach has shown his tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of the players in his charge.

Nagelsmann turned Hoffenheim into top-four challengers and transformed Leipzig into genuine title challengers. He looks to have been destined for big things in coaching and it doesn’t get bigger than the Bayern job. RB Leipzig would then need a new head coach.

Other changes taking place

The appointment of a new Die Mannschaft head coach could have a knock-on effect. Dortmund will also have a new head coach in the shape of Marco Rose, while Bayer Leverkusen could be looking for a new permanent boss after the recent sacking of Peter Bosz. Reports suggest that Monchengladbach are also in talks to hire Real Sociedad B’s, Xabi Alonso. Next season could be yet another fascinating one in the Bundesliga, with so many potential changes.

The crazy thing is that Nagelsmann to Bayern could be terrible news for the rest of the league, not least his current club Leipzig. It may turn out to be a case of the more than changes, the more that changes the same in the title race.

Who will be the next Die Mannschaft boss?
