Bayern Munich have reportedly agreed on a world-record compensation fee of around £20million with RB Leipzig to appoint coaching wunderkind Julian Nagelsmann as their new head coach. The move is hardly a surprise, although Leipzig did everything in their power to prevent the move from happening.

It was never going to be easy for Die Roten Bullen to stop Nagelsmann from moving to Bayern. Firstly, there is the pull of the club, but secondly, there is also the prospect of returning to Bavaria, as the 33-year-old grew up in a town just outside Munich. He was also a fan of the reigning champions as a child.

The move was almost inevitable

Nagelsmann managing Bayern Munich at some point always seemed inevitable somehow. There is something special about the young head coach and ever since he broke through as a first-team coach at Hoffenheim there were signs he would become a top coach. When a top German coach comes along, links to Bayern Munich are inevitable.

When speculation started about Bayern head coach Hansi Flick potentially leaving his job, there was only one man that was ever going to take charge in Bavaria. There was very little chance that Nagelsmann was going to move elsewhere, despite him being linked to the vacant Tottenham job.

Bayern Munich and Nagelsmann a perfect fit

It seems that Bayern Munich and Nagelsmann are the perfect fit. It is a case of the best young German coach at the biggest club in Germany. Hansi Flick has done an excellent job in Bavaria, but there have been signs this season that things may have been going slightly stale at Bayern. Nagelsmann could be the perfect remedy for any lethargy within the club.

The 33-year-old has managed Leipzig to challenge Bayern for the Bundesliga title in the last two years. In truth, their players are good, but they are not on the same level as the Bavarian. Nagelsmann’s has displayed his tactical acumen with Die Roten Bullen, who were just not quite good enough to overthrow the reigning German champions.

The best young coach in Europe is about to have the tools to take his managerial career to the next level in Munich. Nagelsmann will have the ability of the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry at his disposal.  That is a step up from Alexander Sorloth, Yussuf Poulsen and Emil Forsberg.

All change on the benches in Germany

It is all change on the benches of the Bundesliga’s top teams. Nagelsmann to Bayern, Marco Rose to Dortmund and Adi Hutter taking over at Monchengladbach. There are then also RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen who will all need new head coaches this summer.

Leipzig are expected to raid sister club RB Salzburg for American head coach Jesse Marsch, which would be a very attractive option. However, there has also been stories in Germany linking Stuttgart’s Pellegrino Matarazzo with RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and even Hertha Berlin.

Next season should be a highly interesting one in the Bundesliga, even if the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann as Bayern Munich virtual ensures that Bayern Munich will dominate the German top-flight once again.
