Our gameweek one FPL picks for season 2021/22

The summer has been an exciting one, with some big-name players arriving in the Premier League. The cast of new arrivals will only make our Fantasy Football campaigns even more interesting. We are back for the new Premier League season which starts on Friday night with our picks. So, without further ado, here are our picks for gameweek one of the new season:

Robert Sanchez (Brighton, £4.5m)

The Spanish goalkeeper seems to be the no-brainer set-and-forget pick for this season in FPL. This is a fairly easy pick, as Brighton are solid defensively and Sanchez enjoyed a solid campaign last season. When it comes to fixtures, Brighton have one of the best set of opening fixtures of any team. The Seagulls kick-off the campaign with a trip to Burnley, who are not exactly prolific.

Our advice is to pair Sanchez with his backup Luke Steele, who is just £4m. This will save you money to spend elsewhere. As we all know those funds can be the difference between success and failure in this game.

Konstantinos Tsimikas (Liverpool, £4m)

The Greek full-back would not have been in many people’s teams before an injury to Liverpool’s first-choice left-back Andy Robertson in pre-season trust Tsimikas into a very likely starting role. At £4m, he is an absolute steal, as he is expected to start Liverpool’s opening three league games against Norwich, Burnley and Chelsea. The Reds opening fixture list is kind, apart from a home game with European champions Chelsea in gameweek three of course.

Tsimikas has relatively low ownership going into gameweek one. However, with so much written about him, he is sure to prove to be a far more popular asset by deadline time.

Harvey Barnes (Leicester, £7m)

There are a plethora of midfield options available this season and choosing the best option is a minefield, beyond Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes that is. However, Barnes is a player that could thrive this season. The youngster missed the end of last season through injury but was one of the bargains in the first half of the campaign.

Thankfully, it now looks as if the winger is back to close to full fitness, although his boss Brendan Rodgers has stated he is not fully fit yet. At his price with an opening three games of Wolves, West Ham and Norwich, we think his selection is worth taking a gamble on.

Danny Ings (Aston Villa, £8m)

At Southampton, Ings was prolific in front of goal. The Villans nabbed Ings for what could be a bargain fee of £25m, as his contract was up next summer. It could be an inspired signing for the Villans, who have replaced the creative skills of Jack Grealish with Emiliano Buendia and Leon Bailey.

With such creative players behind him, Ings should enjoy a strong campaign with Dean Smith’s team, if of course, he can manage to steer clear of the injuries that have dogged him throughout his career. His price tag of £8m and a very enticing opening few fixtures makes Danny Ings a must-have player ahead of gameweek one.
