Young Serbian star impressing in the Bundesliga

The German Bundesliga has become a fine breeding ground for young players to develop into top stars. Youngsters are given an opportunity that they would unlikely get elsewhere. One youngster who has caught the eye this season is Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic, who is now a reported transfer target for a number of big European clubs.

Top scorer in the German top-flight

The 20-year-old international youngster has made a big impact this season for Frankfurt, scoring nine goals in nine appearances in the German top-flight. The forward has already surpassed his tally of eight Bundesliga goals from last season.

The former Benfica star is now the top scorer in the Bundesliga, ahead of high-profile figures such as Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Dortmund stalwart Marco Reus. Jovic now has a ratio of a goal every 62 minutes in the German top-flight this season, which is an impressive record for any player in the top European leagues.

Has developed well in the past few seasons

When Eintracht Frankfurt signed the striker in 2017, they believed they had signed a player with big potential, but who had a lot of developing to do to become the finished article.

However, Jovic seems to have knuckled down and is working on his weaknesses. The striker has reportedly improved his attitude in training and is working far harder for the team. It seems whatever he is doing differently is working, as Jovic is starting to look like a real deal in one of Europe’s biggest leagues. The highlight of his campaign so far was scoring five goals in a 7-1 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The goal haul made him the 15th ever player in Bundesliga history to score five goals in one game, and the first Frankfurt player to do it in the German top-flight. Jovic also became the first Serb to ever score a hat-trick in Bundesliga.

He joined an illustrious list of strikers, such as Jurgen Klinsmann, Jupp Heynckes, Gerd Muller and of course Robert Lewandowski, who managed the feat in 2015 against Wolfsburg.

His future is unknown

Jovic is only on-loan at Eintracht Frankfurt until next summer. The Bundesliga club do have the option to buy the Serbian star. However, the loan deal with part club Benfica reportedly includes a sell-on clause, so the situation could get complicated.

A number of big European clubs, including Liverpool and Bayern Munich, have reportedly shown an interest in signing the youngster. The Bundesliga club could find it hard to keep hold of their fast-rising star amid all the interest from elsewhere.

Jovic’s form has led Eintracht Frankfurt to fourth place in the Bundesliga table so far this season. However, Frankfurt are major outsiders to seal a Champions League spot.

Where the youngster will be plying his trade in the future is unknown. However, he is enjoying a fine campaign in the Bundesliga with Frankfurt. Maybe he may decide that he is best served staying with his current club for the next couple of seasons and to mature before moving to one of Europe’s biggest hitters.

Will Luka Jovic develop into a world-class player?
